Open AI Lab EAIDK
Open AI Lab EAIDK-610 is an embedded AI development kit powered by a Rockchip RK3399 processor, recently added to Linux 6.1 and described as “popularly used by university students” in the kernel changelog.
But I had never heard about it, and it turns out it’s because it’s popular with students in China, and most documentation is written in Chinese. The development board is equipped with 4GB LPDDR3, a 16GB eMMC flash, HDMI video output, Gigabit Ethernet and WiFi 5, a few USB ports, a 40-pin GPIO header, and more.
EAIDK-610 specifications:
The EAIDK kits used to have an official website at eaidk dot com, but that’s now down so the documentation is all over the place. There’s an openailab.com website in Chinese, but I don’t see anything about the kit. Another website mentions Fedora 28 and Android 8.1 operating systems support. I can also see some training materials from OpenCV China in English on the Hong Kong Baptist University website using both the EAIDK-610 covered here and the Raspberry Pi-sized EAIDK-310 powered by a Rockchip RK3228H processor.
The Linux 6.1 patch was tested on Armbian and Glodroid with HDMI, GPU, USB HOST, Type-C ADB, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth working. The EAIDK-610 development kit is not officially supported in Armbian, but support is available through a Gitee repository.
The board was sold in a kit with a display, an acrylic case, a power adapter, and a USB cable. While it’s nice to have another Rockchip RK3399 platform (partially) supported in mainline Linux, the EAIDK-600 is at least 3 to 4 years old, and it’s unclear whether the company/organization behind the project still exists. Some samples are still apparently available on Taobao, which again asks me to log in with a mobile phone number just to check the product information…
